What Causes Loss Of Sense Of Taste After Tooth Extraction?

I had a filling done. The upper last molar. I cannot taste food. This started two days aftr the filling. I can feel temperature and texture

so the tongue is not numb. I cannot taste any food unless it is Extremely salty or sweet. Could this be related to the filling or something else?

Can understand your concern..

Loss of taste sensation after a dental filling can occur in case if the dentist have injected you with local anaesthesia leading to damage to the nerves supplying the tongue..

In case of injury to the lingual nerve there is loss of taste sensation of the tongue on the side on which the injection was given..

In case of injury to the facial nerve (specifically chorda tympani branch which supply the front two thirds of tongue) can also cause loss of taste.

Reduced taste sensation can also be seen in case of nasal congestion and sinus infections..

It can also be due to damage or inflammation to the taste buds leading to reduced sense of taste

I would suggest you to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated and in case it seems to be due to any nerve damage and other conditions like nasal and sinus disorders are not seen and taste buds seems to be normal consultation with neurologist is recommended..
