What Causes Loss In The Sense Of Smell While On Levaquin?

I m taking Levaquin to knock down an infection and I ve noticed a loss of sense of smell and taste, which I assume is a side effect of taking this drug - both of which senses should return when the drug regemine is completed. Is this understanding correct?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

These are not common side effects of this medication but persons react differently to medication so reactions can be individual.

You should let your doctor know about your reaction so that he or she can document it.

The effects should decrease after the medication stops but this cannot be predicted definitely since the reaction is not common.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
