What Causes Loose Motion Along With Blood In Stool?

my child is of 12 months of old and suffering by loose motion with pinch of blood in it. local doctor prescribed Diof as medicine with ORS. ithad been 4 days now the stool color is normal right now but the stool is not normal and still we found blood with it. Please suggest.

Hi,

The commonest reasons for loose stool that are blood tinged in a child can be as follows:
Infective gastroenteritis.
Intolerance to something that you feed the baby with.
Rarely some condition of colon like colitis of some sort can cause this.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Send the stool for lab for 3 consecutive days.
Tests of blood.
This will give an idea as to the cause. Hence say for example if there is some intolerance you and your Pediatrician might find the reason and gets your baby treated accordingly.
If infective diarrhea then your Pediatrician will change over to another antibiotic and supportive medicines.
ORS and probiotics may be a bit different in pediatric age group hence you should buy those prescribed.
