What Causes Left-sided Pain And Tightness In The Neck Radiating Towards Head?

I am writing for my fiancé who is experiencing severe head pain on the left side of his head. it starts with tightness in his neck that radiates around to the left side going up on the back side of his ear and settling halfway up his head causing extreme pain and drooping in his left eye. This has been occurring off and on for the last 7 years. No one has ever figured out what is wrong with him, He has seen a chiropractor and it seems to help when he is going 3 times a week to be adjusted, then the headaches/migraines? occur less frequently. However when he is not being seen by a chiropractor the pain becomes so severe that he has to walk for at least 30 minutes to help advil/Tylenol get into his system to just break the pain into a tolerable amount. sometimes it can take up to an hour for it to completely disappear.. sometimes only to return within a hour or so for him to end up in immense pain again. . However tonight his pain is a lot worse and is not getting any better and he has already taken 4 advil and 2 Tylenol in 3 hours. he has been walking around for over an hour trying to get the advil into his system to try and get the pain to go away and it just wont. I am very worried about him and concerned that it could be something very serious. No one has ever requested a MRI or CAT scan or any type of test for him. only physical therapy (which did not help at all) or chiropractic care which helps only if he is seen every other day. please can you help????

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Get your fiancee visit ER, so that he can be examined physically & get investigations done. Pain that is radiating can be due to pathology in cervical vertebrae, developing neurological problem, Myasthenia Gravis, brain tumor, muscular dystrophy, autoimmune disease, cancer or it can be simply ptosis. Get him examined, evaluated & diagnosed. The treatment will depend upon his diagnosis. In the meantime, help him stay out of stress, anxiety & let him relax & take plenty of sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
