What Causes Lack Of Thirst Even When Dehydrated?

Why am I never thirsty? The only way I know to drink something is by feeling the effects of dehydration. Sometimes it s a headache that only gets better with water, thick spit, and sometimes my mouth gets so dry I can t taste, dark yellow pee the- whole shebang. It has always been this way, even when I was a little kid the doctors told me I was dehydrated. Generally the only time I drink is when I want to taste something, so it ll be anything except water. I make an effort to drink water and on a good day I ll get two glasses in, but usually I don t drink an entire glass of water for a week. It s hard to remember to drink when I never feel thirsty. For the future of my kidney s I hope there s an answer.

Hi,

There could be various reasons for not feeling thirsty even when you are dehydrated. One possibility is that you have a condition called hypodipsia or adipsia, which is a decreased or absent sense of thirst. This condition can be caused by various factors such as certain medications, medical conditions affecting the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that regulates thirst), and psychological factors.

Other possible causes of not feeling thirsty include habitually drinking small amounts of fluid throughout the day, consuming a lot of foods that contain water, and your body adapting to low fluid intake.

It is important to make an effort to drink enough fluids even if you don't feel thirsty. Dehydration can lead to serious health complications, including kidney damage. You may want to try setting reminders to drink water or keeping a water bottle with you at all times to encourage more frequent drinking. Additionally, you can try incorporating more fluids into your diet, such as by consuming more fruits and vegetables that have high water content.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
