What Causes Itchy Rashes Around A Surgical Incision?

I had TKA 3 weeks ago . The staples were removed 1 week ago and the incision has been left open to air. 5 days ago , numerous tiny red raised rashes have appeared and are very itchy. Are these some kind of allergic response ? Should i be concerned about them? And what is the best remedy to these? Please advise because the itchiness is driving me crazy.
