General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for writing at HCM.
If you have changed the soap and started with dry itchy skin around the foreskin the most likely cause is "reaction" to the new soap. We call it dermatitis and the first thing to help with it is avoid the cause, in our case the new soap. Washing only with warm water might be enough for good genital hygiene with low risk of reactions to products and dermatitis. Avoiding the new soap will help relieve the symptoms and will also tell us if the cause is the soap or not. Soap may dry the skin even more and make the symptoms worse even if you are not reacting to it. To help with the dry skin a moisturizing cream might be recommended. Another thing to help with symptom control and quicker healing is a local steroid cream, thin layer twice a day for 7-10 days. Make sure you wear cotton and not tight underwear to reduce irritation.
If no improvement with the above recommendations in 4-5 days you will need to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment plan.
Hope this is helpful and answers to your question.
