What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation In The Vagina?

I experienced severe itching, burning, and pain in my vulva approximately 5 years ago. I went to see my OB/GYN and she thought it might be lichen sclerosus. She gave me some cream which helped some, but didn t completely take care of it. It finally went away but now I am beginning to have a re-acurance. Now my right labia minor is gone and the left labia minor is barely there any more. I just found out that my husband of 38 years has been unfaithful, the last time he says was 5 years ago which was just before I began experiencing these symptoms. Is there any STD that he could have given me that would destroy my labia minor? I have an appointment with my primary physician next week to have a pap and STD test run. Is there something I should talk to her further about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a yeast infection.

I suggest you to use an antifungal cream for local application.

I also recommend taking anti-fungal oral medical such as Fluconazole.

I recommend washing and drying frequently the area and use cotton underwear.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
