What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation Behind The Knees?

The other day, i was outside and all of a sudden i felt an itching and a slight burning sensation in the back of my knee. I started scratching and then i felt a big lump. I went inside and pulled down my pants to check what was happeing; a big black circle with the lump in the middle was formed. It hurt if i touched for a few hours. N the morning the lump and hurt disappeared, but the big black circle was there and stillthere today. What could have bit me and what should I have done?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible that the lump, discomfort and discoloration may be due to rupture of varicose veins in the area. This would cause the symptoms mentioned. Another possible cause would be an insect bite to the area. Your management of the situation was fine, you can continue monitoring for any changes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
