What Causes Itchiness In The Feet And Hands During 28 Weeks Of Pregnancy?

My daughter just called me. She is 31 years old. 28 weeks along in pregnancy. She is at the University of Washington Hospital for her care. Last week she had very itchy hands and feet bottoms. A blood test was done and she told me they will be inducing her labor based on the bile the liver is not producing, which is not good for the baby. She said it was called something like 'colostatis' or something similar. I'm trying to find out more. Can you help me?

Hi,
I understand your concern.
I am sorry about the problem your daughter is facing.
Cholestasis is a condition jaundice in pregnancy & the raised bile salts in blood are risky for the baby.( premature labor, fetal distress, meconium aspiration, still birth)
Your daughter is already 28 weeks- the baby is fully developed/ viable at this stage . So the doctors have taken correct decision to induce her & take care of the baby in premature baby unit & gain normal weight...rather than exposing it to various hazards of the condition.& then treat the mother for the disease.
Thanks.
