I have been having a scratchy throat as well as coughing especially when I relax or lay down at night. I also have an occasional heart burn. I have a history of allergies and asthma but the asthma is not at a critical stage. I have a little wheezing maybe once in 6 months when the weather conditions change. Can you tell me what might be causing this scratchy throat? Thank you
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms scratchy throat and coughing on lying down and occasional heartburn indicates Acid Reflux and while lying down due to posture there is more acid reflux in throat causing scratchy feeling and cough..
Wheezing is due to asthma and is seen more in patients during temperature changes due to increased congestion and airway obstruction..
I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like upper G.I Endoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.. You can be advised to take Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole.. Take antacids like Milk of magnesia.. Avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water.. Always take walk after meals and take your dinner atleast 2 hours before sleep.. You should sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet..
Hope this information helps..
Regards..
