What Causes Irregular Heart Beats While On Zoloft?

I have been diagnosed with POTS Syndrome and take Zoloft to help with the symptoms. However, certain days (especially today) while sitting I experience my heart skipping beats and when it happens it takes my breath away. Is this just another symptom of POTS?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
welcome to HCM.

Skipping heart beats are not always abnormal as they may also occur in healthy individuals but if they remain or occur frequently then they must need further evaluation by various tests.

In your case,it is very unlikely to be due to zoloft and if you have breathing problem with skipped beats then you should go for resting EKG and 24-hr holter's monitoring to detect the underlying cause.

However,it could also be the symptoms of Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) so there is no need to get panicked.

You can see your treating physician or visit ER for once to rule out any other cardiac problem.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
