What Causes Internal Bleeding In The Throat While Having Chronic Sinusitis?
Sir, my father who is 80years old, has chronic sinusitis according to the doctor who treats him. Now while sleeping his throat gets filled with mucus and blood, this happens only while sleeping. A CT scan revealed that there is no other issues. Still we are not able to understand why this bleeding is happening. Please could you throw some light on this issue and the method of treatment to be followed Thank you Pramod
Chronic sinusitis implies that there is persisting inflammation/irritation of the lining of the sinuses.
Inflammation/irritation of the body surfaces can be associated with the presence of bleeding. Sinus symptoms tend to be worse either at night or in the early morning because of a change in environment.
With a history of chronic sinusitis, he would need to be on medication for the long term to help reduce his symptoms. In most cases, this would consist of an antihistamine decongestant combination (Eg zyrtec d, allegra a, claritine d or benadryl d). This can be combined with topical steroidnasal spray such as Nasonex, Nasocort, Flonase. If an infection is present, he would need a course of antibiotics as well.
I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Michelle Gibson James
