What Causes Intermittent Dizziness While On Prozac?

Hello, I have been taking 20 mg prozac for about a week and a half, and I have noticed some startling periods of vertigo, feeling as though I am falling while sitting down. Is this something to be concerned about, or is it something I should expect to taper off with time? Thank you.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Prozac does tend to cause vertigo-like side effects in a person taking it. So the dizziness you are feeling can be attributed to Prozac.

However, as your body and mind will get used to effects of it, it will decrease in intensity and you will not feel it after some days. The doctor must have prescribed you this medication because its benefits for you must be outweighing the side effects.

I would also like to caution you that if you feel these effects persistently or if they worsen as days pass, you should consult your doctor to decrease the dose or change the medicine as it does not suit you.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
