What Causes Intense Pain In The Left Side Of The Chest While Breathing?

I started experiencing chest pain about 2 weeks ago. I immediately went to the e-room. The did an EKG, cat scan, and took x-rays. No fever, no congestion, no coughing, and mostly the pain was concentrated on my left side and worse the deeper the breath I took. They sent me home saying that I had inflammation in my chest area but they could not tell me why or how. I had some relief last week but this week the problem seems worse. Please advise. It would have been nice to know you were charging something up front for those of us on a fixed income. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Chest pain especially on deep inspiration can be due to Pluerisy (Inflammation of lung lining) or can be muscular pain from chest muscles.
I would recommend taking an over the counter pain killer like Ibuprofen to reduce the pain.
Sometimes warm compresses over the affected area can be helpful.
Hope you feel better soon, Thank you.
