What Causes Inflammation On The Roof Of The Mouth?

hi! i have something wrong with a piece of my gum on the roof of my mouth, near my two front teeth. it feels inflamed, and every time i talk, my tongue hits it, causing it to swell and hurt. i've looked it up, and i believe it's called a "incisive papilla". can you tell me why it's swollen?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems like the incisive papilla is swollen due to the causes like continuous injury, habit of eating very hard foods, chewing any seeds or chips, etc.
It can also be due to burning with hot foods or concentrated solution of mouthwash, while oral infection or dry mouth can also be a cause.

For now, start gargling with specialized mouthwash like Magic mouthwash or other that contains numbing agent like lignocaine as it helps in reducing pain.
Apply cool packs or suck ice and hold cool water in the mouth to reduce inflammation and swelling.
Take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
