What Causes Indentations On The Lower Legs?

My name is Jason, Tonite when I took my work boots and socks off, I noticed unusual indentation in the places where the tops of boots and socks were, further observation of lower legs showed very unusual swelling... Have just spent the weekend at beach... really too much sun ... feet swelled up ... I feel fine.... have had a physical exam 4 weeks ago. Routine EKG reported no problems..... My Father was very active and healthy all his life, however.... at age 62 , he had leg swelling, was checked out, found to need a heart pacemaker.... I am not sure how to respond to this.... I ve never had this problem before....

Hi,

I have just read your query. Let me clarify you.
1) The swelling which you describe is due to excess accumulation of fluid. as indentation occurs due to distribution of fluids between different fluid compartments in our body. Do you have any other symptoms other than this? Like decreased urine output?
2) Not all leg swellings are cardiac in origin, it can be due to stasis, due to diminishing renal function, infection and so on.
3) If your routine EKG reported no problem then no need to worry about cardiac cause we should evaluate the other causes.
4) For time being avoid prolonged standing, wear comfortable footwear, elevate your legs while laying down.
5) Here we prescribe diuretics and anti-inflammatory. If symptoms still persist you can visit a nearby Medical practitioner and get it prescribed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Moses John Wesley,
