What Causes Impaired Balance While On Statin Medications?

I am having trouble with my equilibrium. I cannot close my eyes and stand still without touching something to help me keep my balance. Additionally, if I am at a basketball game, our seats are close to the court and if I tilt my head back to look at the big screen above, I will lose my balance. When in church if we close our eyes and bow my head to pray, I have to touch something to keep my balance. Also, I have trouble walking through store aisles and or aircraft jetways without feeling a loss of balance. I am 62 years old and take statin medication for high cholesterol, baby aspirin and fish oil.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Atorvastatin is associated with fatigue, weakness, muscle pain and some times dizziness. This can be reduced by taking it in the evening and tapering down the doses.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ajeet Singh, General & Family Physician
