Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has unsteady balance, quick shuffling steps with slightly bent posture. Even though he has RA he complains of back pain all the time. Sleeps a lot, has short term memory problems. We have recently had nerve and muscle studies completed with normal findings. Could he possibly have Parkinson?
Unsteady gait, short term memory loss does point towards a diagnosis of Parkinson s disease. You have not mentioned the age of your husband. You should get him to assess by a neurologist. He will take a detailed history and perform a thorough physical and neurological examination. He may also order an MRI or other imaging techniques to rule out other neurological disorders which mimic Parkinson s disease like progressive supranuclear palsy. If he is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, he will have to take a Levodopa carbidopa combination lifelong to control his symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
