What Causes Hyper Extension Of Arms And Legs During Feeding In An Infant?

My 4 month granddaughter was born 1 month premature. No problems until about 2 weeks ago. She has begun hyper extending her arms & legs during feedings. We changed nipples & formula. This the only time she does this. She isn t fussy any other time. No fever. Not rubbing ears. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Because this is a new symptom, she needs to be examined and have a careful neurological exam. It would be beneficial for the doctor if you record the abnormal movements (make a video) and show it to the doctor during the consultation as this will assist the diagnosis or further needed steps towards diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
