What Causes Hoarseness And Irritation In Throat Post Inhalation Of Bleach Fumes?

I was changing the water from a mop bucket because it had a strong bleach smell, I added new water & pine sol then mopped the dining room, livingroom & play area.. I started coughing when I went upstairs for bed & when I woke up my voice was gone & my throat hurts, what can I do to get my voice back? Am I in harm from inhaling so much bleach ?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain bleach fumes contains strong chemical that is irritant when comes in contact with the throat mucosa leading to its irritation and inflammation and can cause sore throat and coughing..
The inflammation of the vocal cords has led to Laryngitis or loss of voice..
Yes, it is harmful to inhale bleach fumes, as inhaling accidentally once or twice is not that harmful but inhaling regularly can lead to even severe respiratory diseases..
I would suggest you to as of now do warm saline gargles and suck throat lozenges..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Drink plenty of cool water to reduce inflammation..
Avoid spicy foods..

In case if still there is no improvement consult an ENT physician and get evaluated...

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
