What Causes High Pulse Rate?

I visited by MD last week for a fast pulse rate. He did an EKG and drew blood. His office called this morning and told me blood work was fine, no thyroid problems, and told me to keep check on my pulse rate (which has been around 110 a minute) for the next two weeks. If it stays high he will give me a beta blocker, my question is should I restrict my activity or exercise? Why wait 2 more weeks? It makes me nervous. Thank you.
