What Causes High Pulse Rate With Normal BP?

HELP! MY HUSBAND IS CURRENTLY WORKING A TURNAROUND @ WORK , which consists of a twelve hour shift in an asbestos specialty. During that time frame, there is a medical assistant checking the guys blood pressure and pulse rate approximately four times a shift. If either is high, the employee must sit out and retest. When the numbers look better, they are allowed back in to work. My husband s blood pressure has been ok, approx. 122/77 OR so, but his pulse rate has been a problem all day, approx. 106 to 111, and the regulation is 90 or below. We are trying to figure out what may be causing this. Any ideas?

Hi, thank you for asking healthcare Magic.
Asbestos exposure can lead to a condition called asbestosis. During this disease, there is scarring of lung tissues. This might reduces the exchange of gases in the lungs and less oxygen would be absorbed into the system. The heart reacts by increasing the rate at which it beats to meet up oxygen demands in other tissues. I think this might have been the cause of his high pulse rate. He still needs to be assessed clinically by asking if he has been experiencing chest pains or coughing. Also a chest X-ray or chest CT scan is necessary to rule out this condition. I would suggest he sees a chest medicine specialist for proper assessment.

I hope that helps.
I wish him well
