What Causes High Blood Pressure While On Statins?

Recently my regular Dr has placed me on a statin for cholesterol control, at least that is my understanding, 5mg, and baby aspirin twice daily. Since this new regimen I have noticed an increase in my blood pressure readings, which were consistently in the 145/85 range, and now I regularly get reading of 175-185/95. At age 70, is this reason for immediate concern?

Hello sir,
I would not say emergency but yes it's an immediate concern. Blood pressure at that levels is not desirable and it increases the chances of cardio vascular emergencies.
It is highly unlikely that the statins or the baby aspirins would have contributed to your high blood pressure. You could have got it through multiple risk factor including age.
I would have recommended my patient for a complete workout and once hypertension is confirmed, I would put them on anti-hypertensive medications like telmesartan for normalising blood pressure.
I would advice you to consult your physician at the earliest. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
