Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My legs feel very heavy and are causing difficulties walking. I can only walk a short distance before my legs feel like lead and I feel a burning sensation in my buttocks, thighs and calves. It is getting worse. My balance also is bad and I get dizziness and a feeling of being very fatigued. I would appreciate your thoughts and what type of specialist I should consult. Thank. YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Are you a Diabetic? Do you have low back ache? Diabetes can cause swelling of the lower limbs, heavy feeling and difficulty in walking. Due to Diabetic Neuropathy, one can experience burning sensations, pain, and paraesthesia of the lower limbs. One can also feel fatigued and dizzy. You must consult a general physician, who can advise on the required investigations and if found to be diabetic, refer you to a Diabetologist or an Endocrinologist.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
