What Causes Heartburn And Belching While On Zolpidem?

Normally, I sleep extremely well and easily, however, it s been a difficult year with a lot of life stressors hitting hard: loss of job/law suits ... So recently I ve been taking a blend of 5-10 mg of zolpidem (ambient) before i go to bed then-since it doesn t get me through the night-I follow up with .25 or .5 mg of lorazopam. Ultimately I sleep but I wake up super out of it and remain anxious with heartburn/belching and other effects. it s only been about 2 weeks but I can t take the screwed up circadian rhythm and want desperately to get off of the drugs since I am a very healthy person (exercise 5/6 x s a week) What counsel can you provide? THANK YOU!!!

Hi,

Unfortunately withdrawal can occur with both medications but this is more likely with high doses and if the medication is used for a long period of time. If you have only been using these medicines for 2 weeks then withdrawal is not likely.

Your doctor would likely suggest reducing both very slowly over a few weeks. You should let him or her know about your desire to stop the medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
