Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
about 3 years ago my heart started to skip a beat and it takes my breath away. it usually only happens when im leaning back in my couch or lying in my bed. im only 17 and my yearly physical exams are normal. i will admit that i dont eat right, but i get a lot of exercise. it really scares me.
Have you gotten this checked with an ECG. An ECG is an electric representation of the heart beat. Usually, this shows when the heart beat starts and when it ends. It would also show the time gaps between this.
Usually, the shape or the pattern of the ECG would easily allow one to determine how the heart is skipping a beat or why this is happening.
In case the skipping of the heart beat is not evident or obvious, a doctor may order a treadmill test. This can stress the heart and enable one to get to the exact cause. Once diagnosed, a doctor may order more specific tests or use some types of anti-arrhythmic drugs to help solve the problem.
I hope this helps. Please reach out to me if you have any other questions.
