What Causes Heart Pounding At Night?

I WOKE UP LAST NIGHT WITH MY HEART POUNDING. iT S WHAT WOKE ME UP. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES. I AM A FEMALE 67 YEARS OLD WITH NO MEDICAL PROBLEMS THAT I KNOW OF. MY HUSBAND LISTENED TO MY CHEST AND HE SAID MY HEART WAS BEATING ABOUT 100 BEATS PER MIN UTE. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 3 TIMES ALWAYS AT NIGHT WHILE I AM ASLEEP. WHAT CAUSES THIS. THANK YOU.

It can have different causes, such as anxiety, electrolyte disbalance, thyroid problems, heart problems.The best way will be try to have an ECG during the episode.
I would advise you to undergo echocardiography and check serum electrolyte levels.
