What Causes Heart Palpitations Intermittently?

Hi. I am 20 years old, and I think something is wrong with my heart. Sometimes without a reason it starts beating very fast. And everytime when I see something that upsets me, it starts beating very fast too. I have no idea why. And I'm starting to get scared. What's wrong with it? I red on the internet that this may be a sign of depression. Is that the reason?

Hi,

Episodic raid beating heart is highly likely a palpitation-most likely supraventricular tachycardia.

Besides heart problems, endocrine gland disorders, certain medicines, alcohol, caffeine, smoking and emotional stress may cause palpitations.

If the heart pounding is a few seconds to few minutes duration without any other symptoms and resolves on its own it does not need medical attention.

Try to make lifestyle changes to avoid alcohol, smoking or caffeinated drinks which trigger heart palpitations.

If you experience dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath or chest pain during palpitations you should contact your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
