What Causes Heart Palpitations In A 14 Year Old Boy?
My 14 year old son had random heart palpitations for about 3 minutes (120+ per minute). This is the 3rd time in the last year this happened. Should I be worried? He is healthy, strong and a swimmer. It happened while he was hanging out with his friends tonight.
Hello , Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thanks for sharing your concern with us . Heart palpitations can precipitate in dehydration , anemia , intake of coffee/tea , medicines for asthma/ allergy , thyroid problem , heart conduction defects , anemia and stress/panic attacks . I don't think that there is any problem but for precaution , tests like ECHO , ECG , HOLTER can be done to rule out any serious issue related with heart electrical system . You should encourage your children to drink plenty of water a day . Tests for thyroid and hemoglobin should also be checked . I would recommend to consult first with your pediatrician and if they refer to pediatric cardiologist then discuss this issue with them also . Best Regards , DR.S.TOMAR Best Regards , DR.S.TOMAR
