What Causes Hearing Loss In A Ear Whit History Of Lesion In Thalamus?

I have an irregular noncircumscribed T2 hyperintense lesion in right thalamus. 16mm x 27mm x 14mm. I am experiencing auditory trouble in my left ear, my left foot feels like it is on fire sometimes, and I am getting dull headaches frequently. Are these things symptoms of the Lesion? What can I expect for symptoms? How will they progress...?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have a history of having a lesion in the thalamus. Presently, you are having dull headache, hearing problem in the left ear and are also experiencing burning sensation in the left foot. Common side effects of thalamic damage may cause sensory issues such as tingling, numbness, hypersensitivity, vision loss or light sensitivity.

Lesions in the thalamus may cause symptoms of auditory neuropathy. It may be caused due to age, genetic condition, damage to the auditory nerve itself or genes with mutations causing damage to the auditory system. With the disruption of the nerves function, a person will experience pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or difficulty controlling specific muscles.

You are suggested to get clinically examined by a Neurologist and get few tests /imaging tests like auditory brainstem response (ABR) and otoacoustic emissions (OAE) done. Your treatment will depend on the diagnosis made. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
