What Causes Headache While Suffering From Kidney Disease?

I have stage III kidney disease because of urinary reflux. I had an angiogram last Tuesday and they used a lot of iodine-based contrast dye (per the doctor). They used a cutting balloon to open up a stent but they did not insert a new stent. I was given IV fluids a day before the procedure along with2 doses of Mucomist prior to the procedure and 2 doses afterwards. Since then I wake up with a headache and a metallic taste in my mouth along with mild nausea. Is this because of my kidneys? Should I get a urine test to check my creatinine level?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

This is a usual presentation of any specific disease.
Hypertension secondary to kidney disease can be the commonest cause of headache.
Surely yes, anything can cause adverse reactions, the iodine-containing dyes usually cause rashes on the skin and so on, a headache could have been persistent.
Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation.

Consult your Doctors asap to ascertain the cause and get treated accordingly as needed.
Do not try anything at home as self-medication is strictly not to be done in kidney disease as many medicines cannot be given or are given is adjusted dosages to suit as per the kidney function.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
