What Causes Headache And Stomach Pain While On Arip For Autism?
Dr my daughter is autistic and she had repetitive behavior. Dr prescribed her arip mt 5. But I am giving her half tablet daily since 1 month. But she is complaining of headach stomach pain vomiting loss of apetite. Whay shall I do continue with the medicine or no. I am supposed to give her full table 5mg slowly.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Arip MT is Aripiprazole and the drug is an antipsychotic drug. The drug is found to be useful in reducing the repetitive behaviour in autism and result in improvement. When the drug is advised to a patient for first few weeks slight restlessness, headache, insomnia, nausea, vomiting etc symptoms are seen. In some patients it results in constipation which result in abdominal pain. If these symptoms are intolerable and she is not able to function normally then consult her psychiatrist again for reduction of doses of the drug. For some days 2.5 mg doses would work and also will not cause the symptoms and then dose can be increased again. Please consult her psychiatrist before making any change in her prescription.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care.
