What Causes Hand Stiffness While On Zetia?

My doctor wants me to take Zetia and vascepa. I have failed atorvastatin, rosuvastatin,&Pravastatin due to muscle pain. Any suggestions? Been on Zetia for a month and wake every morning with stiff hands and sore leg joints. The pain go away if I keep moving but if I sit or lie the pain returns. Now my doctor wants to add Vascepa to the Zetia. Help!

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Muscle pain and inflammation is a side effect of statins and if present it is not advisable to use that group of medicines without close monitoring to avoid rhabdomyolysis, a dangerous condition. The Vascepa may help reduce your pain in the joints as omega 3 fatty acids are believed to help. If it does not, Cholestyramine may be used as I have several patients allergic to statins treated successfully with Cholestyramine.

Do get back to me if you have further queries.
