What Causes Hair Loss While On Medication For Diabetes?

I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and taking meds for about 7 weeks. I m experiencing a significant amount of hair loss. Could this be from the stress that has occurred due to the diabetes? Both my primary and dermatologist doctors say no.

Hi,

Let me be very clear that diabetes itself can lead to hair loss. You may also lose hair as a side effect of stress from living with a chronic illness, or from medicines you take to treat your diabetes.

High blood sugar can cause damage to your blood vessels which may affect your hair growth. People who take metformin for diabetes may experience hair loss.

The high-stress levels also add to hair loss. Make sure you’re getting adequate nutrition. Nutrient deficiencies might increase hair loss.

I will suggest please consult an endocrinologist instead of a dermat.

The endocrinologist will be able to find the cause of hair loss and will give you medicines which will not add to your condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
