General & Family Physician, Dr. Alma Neço's Response
Hello dear, Thank you for writing.
Your complaints are highly suggestive of a urinary tract infection. It is one of the most common infections that affect females and it is not necessarily related to sexual activity. One thing that I suggest to my patients, is to apply warm compresses on the belly or simply warm baths.
Your doctor may request a urine test in order to establish the diagnosis. The next step is obtaining a urine culture to determine the causing bacteria and the medication to use. I always suggest my patients to drink plenty of water and cranberry tea or cranberry extract capsules to help the healing process.
I hope this helped. All the best, Dr. Alma
