What Causes Foot Edema After A Gallbladder Surgery?

My question is..I am a 73 yr old patient that just last week had Gallbladder surgery and had to return for a week hospital stay due to infection and Pneumonia. I also have cancer with Stomia . I have been at home from the hospital now for 2 days and my feet and partial shin swelling is no taking place. There is no warmth, color, tenderness to touch or pain...just extremely swollen. Elavation of the feet does not provide any relief and I am currently on a fluid pill..and ideal what may be causing this?

Hi,

According to your situations the most closest possibility is immobility. you admitted hospital what was your physical activity? Secondly is there any skin changes on your legs or is it unilateral on one leg or both?

Immobility and prolonged sitting are known to cause venous stasis and result in leg edema with or without the skin manifestations that are typically seen this type of leg edema may be called dependent edema or gravitational edema.

There are other possibilities which should be considered at this age here can be couple of reasons for your pedal edema for instance cardiac cause or any protein loss but for that need to know more about your past history to rule out any other cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
