What Causes Fluctuation In PSA Levels Despite Lupron Shots?

I had prostate surgery in Oct. 2010, psa around .1 Then 1 year later jumped to 2.2 and I had radiation. 39 treatments. psa back to 1.5 I have had a Lupron shot every 6months until this past year 2015 in June and psa jumped to 2.5. Had a Lupron shot- in September it jumped to 4.5. Had a Lupron shot. Another psa in Dec. of that year 2015 it jumped to 5.2. Another Lupron shot. In 2016 of March it jumped to 11.2. I started with a Level 4 cancer with a gleason score 9 in 2010. My question is, is the Lupron doing any good now and what is my next option. Thanks Jerry

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Jerry.

The lupron may be helping midly, but it is not the main approach anymore with the numbers your prostate is putting forward. Discuss surgical excision with your doctor, and if it not an option then radiation and chemo.

Best wishes.
