What Causes Fluctuating Blood Pressure In A 83 Years Old Women?

Hi my mother is 83 years old and last week was admitted to hospital due to low blood pressure and at times high blood pressure,184/75 and her heart rate was normal. Yesterday she had an echo on her heart and the hospital phoned us today and tolled me that mum has an enlarged Atrial and would need to see a cardiologist as soon as possible what is the cure and how serious is this. Thanks M.D

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The severity or seriousness would depend on the extent of the enlargement.

The heart has 2 atrium, one of the right and the other on the left. One or both may be enlarged.

There may be only a small increase in size or it may be significantly larger.

There is no cure for an enlarged heart but control any any risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, would help.
Her doctors can also give medications that would help her as well.

I hope this helps
