What Causes Floaters In Eyes Along With Blurred Spots In Vision?

I am 55 years old and lately have been experiencing more than usual, floaters in my eyes. They seem to be in both eyes, every day. No flashes of light or halo when I look at light, but black spots...numerous tiny spots or fly size spots. Also experiencing blurry spots. When I blink hard or rub my eyes, they disappear temporarily. With these symptoms, there is no nausea or headaches. Just a hard time staying focused.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Floaters are usually caused by small pieces of debris floating in the vitreous, which is the gel-like substance that fills the inside of the eye. While they are generally harmless, floaters can become more common as we age and may be a sign of a more serious underlying condition if they suddenly increase in number.

The blurry spots that you are experiencing may be related to the floaters, or they may be a separate issue. Blurry vision can be caused by a range of factors, including age-related changes, refractive errors (such as nearsightedness or farsightedness), cataracts, or other eye conditions.

Given that you are experiencing both floaters and blurry spots, it is recommended that you schedule an eye exam with an ophthalmologist to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms. The eye exam will help rule out any serious conditions, such as retinal detachment or other eye disorders, that can cause floaters and blurred vision. It is important to seek medical attention promptly if you experience sudden changes in your vision.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. H. Kay, General & Family Physician
