Hi. My daughter Madeline is 11 years old and she feels like she needs to go to the toilet all the time. She is up till midnight every night because she is afraid she is going to wet the bed. She would sit on the toilet all night if i let her. She has also had a loss of appetite and has lost a fair ammount of weight.

Hello,

Excessive urination is not a common in children but possible causes are:

1. Urinary tract infection may cause burning micturition and increased frequency of urine.
2. Diabetes insipidus: It is again central and nephrogenic both may cause excessive urination due to deficiency of vasopressin.
3. Diabetes mellitus: This is due to deficiency of insulin hormone from birth may cause polyuria, polydipsia, excessive intake of food, and weight loss.
4. Urogenital abnormalities et cetera.

Please consult your pediatrician get it done blood sugar levels, urine examination, serum vasopressin levels and ultrasound abdomen and get treated accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
