I experience leaky bowel in my underpants. This situation can go away for 2 weeks or more and then, there is a sudden onset. This onset can last 1 to 3 days forcing me indoors away from people. I was told my spincter muscles are weakcausing leakage. I do not know what to do, Thank You

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Based on the fact that the muscle damage is causing fecal incontinence,I may recommend a program of exercise and other therapies to restore muscle strength.

These treatments can improve anal sphincter control and the awareness of the urge to defecate.

I suggest to consult a proctologist for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
