What Causes Fatigue And Body Itching While On Levetiracetam?

How long should it take to adapt to a change in anti-seizure meds. My husband had been on carbamazine for five years after experiencing seizures but recently had one overnight -- know thought to have been caused by the low sodium levels that medicine caused. He has now been on levetiracetam for two weeks, but is experiencing fatigue, irritability and itching. Are there any natural remedies for the low sodium levels, which might have caused the seizures in the first place? \

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Levetiracetam is a medication that should not be swallowed whole, it should be put in a cup of water for a while, mixed well and then taken. The dosage is monitored according to the renal function status, need and response of treatment of the patient. Fatigue, weakness and itching is a side effect of the same medication. If you have discomfort report to your treating doctor your dosage needs to be altered or medication changed for a better substitute.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
