What Causes Fainting Episodes With Pale Bluish Lips In 5 Year Old?

Hello. My 5 year old son had a near fainting episode at school last week. Symptoms included facial pallor, pale bluish lips, sweating and nausea. Right as his symptoms were beginning he said he needed water. The teacher gave him some apple juice and by the time I picked him up (15-20 minutes later), he looked better although his lips were still pale. He had lunch on the way to the doctor s office and had normal coloring by the time we got there. His extremities stayed a bit cool until well into the doctor visit. His exam was normal and no follow up except to make sure he stays well hydrated. Thank you. Lauren

Hi, welcome to healthcaremagic.com.

Brief answer
- It could be hypovolemic shock

Detailed answer
Hi, this looks like a hypovolemic shock which occurs due decrease in water in body. Since, he was also asking for water, it also points to this. Your physician has examined the child and he found no abnormality, this also points towards hypovolemic shock because you were giving him water and food so the shock corrected gradually. I think you should advice your child to take liquid adequately and on regular interval. I hope this has helped you. Wishing your child good health. Take care.
