What Causes Facial Numbness In Children With Ruptured Eardrum?

fMy son has been suffering with a ruptured ear drum and a blocked eustachian tube. His doctor suspected he maybe grinding his teeth and has set him up with an appointment for TMJ. This appointment is in two weeks. Just today he started complaining of numbness in part of his face on the same side as the ear problems. Could this be a tumor pressing on these places? I do not know what to do at this point. Emergency room???

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is a rare but possible cause of his symptoms, it is not the most common cause. His doctor would be able to rule this out by imaging such as a
CT scan.

If his appointment is within the next few days and the symptoms are not too disturbing then he may be able to wait but if this is not the case, then he should be seen as soon as possible.

I hope this helps
