What Causes Facial Discoloration In Infants?

Hi, My baby is 8 months old. While @ birth she was so fair and as days progressed her body parts turned dark but her face is little fair. What s the reason behind it. Last 2 months we have added cow s milk in her solid foods. Would it be a cause for it?

Hi,

This is normal only. Babies will be comparatively fair at birth. Their true colour(which is mostly genetically determined) is attained gradually as melanin pigment concentration in skin increases gradually.

Face is usually lighter than other body parts- this is also normal. Although it is better to withhold cow milk until 1 year of age, it has nothing to with colour.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
