What Causes Extreme Tiredness And Drowsiness While On Zoloft And Claritin?

I take Zoloft and started taking Claritin. I have been extremely tired, napping 4 hours yesterday alone. My 8-year-old daughter also takes Zoloft and has been taking Children's Claritin for a few weeks. She seems to have no adverse effects. I have stopped taking Claritin. Is it ok for my daughter to continue if she has no side effects?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Zoloft is Sertraline and the drug is a SSRI drug. Claritin is an antihistaminic drug and the drug is used in a number of allergic conditions. Taking both drugs in normal doses together can cause increased sedation, drowsiness and sleepiness. This sometimes manifest as persistent tiredness. You have developed tiredness and drowsiness and so stopped the Claritin. If your daughter is not having these side effects then there is no risk in continuing these medicines. Combination of these medicines is safe and no risk.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care.A
