What Causes Excessive Tearing, Running Nose And Facial Swelling After Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

My daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted yesterday. She is having excessive tearing and runny nose from the right side of her face. Had all 4 teeth out no problem on the left. Some swelling (using ice packs) and some continued discomfort. Is this from the anesthesia and oxygen? Should I be concerned about sinus or nerve problems?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter have symptoms of excessive tearing, running nose and facial swelling after wisdom tooth extraction which is due to large force required for extraction, less compression after tooth extraction and perforation of sinus. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to apply ice packs on face on daily basis. Take combination of painkiller( Ibuprofen), antibiotic( Azithromycin 500 mg) and antiinflammatory medication. Visit dentist/ oral and maxillofacial surgeon once again and get it examined completely and start treatment accordingly. You should go for OPG as well. If it is due to nerve injury visit neurologist once and get it examined.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
