What Causes Excessive Swelling In The Leg And A Lump On The Knee?

I went to the ER with extreme swelling in my knee and a lump on the side of my knee the size of a golf ball. I told , after x-rays were taken, that I had several pieces of cartilage floating around in my knee joint. I have to see an orthopedic surgeon . However, I have not seen him yet. Now, 6 days later, my entire leg is swollen, especially my ankle. My ankle is swollen to twice the size of my knee. Why is my ankle swollen like this when the problem is related to my knee?

General Surgeon 's  Response
hanks for your feedback and the reports.

It looks that the mild Thyroid problem may be the reason for the swelling in the leg as seen in the picture you have provided.

I would suggest you to do the following further investigations:
-FT3 , FT4 and TSH to be done ( F means free Thyroid hormones and is also suggested at the end of thyroid reports if you please read it).
-Ultrasonography of the abdomen
-Ultrasonography of the inguinal area and venous Color Doppler examination of the right leg. XXXXXXX has this facility.
-Blood- Serum proteins
The treatment will depend upon the findings of these investigations / examination.
A proper physical examination by a General Surgeon can help more for the diagnosis.
I find this answer helpful
