What Causes Excessive Sleepiness?

I can't seem to wake up the last couple of days. I can only stay awake for a couple minutes at a time and fall asleep while I am sitting up. Never experiences this before. I am diabetic but out of my testing supplies. But have eaten my normal menu.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You are a known case of diabetes and have problem of excessive sleepiness. It could be due to poor control of blood sugar. Hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia both can cause excessive sleepiness and sedation. I would advise you to first of all get your blood sugar levels and HbA1c levels checked to rule out poor control of sugar.
Second cause for excessive sleepiness in a diabetic person can be sleep apnoea during night. Poor non refreshing sleep in night may result in day time drowsiness and sedation.
Diabetics are prone to develop depression which could be the reason for sleepiness in day time. This should be evaluated by a psychiatrist. Medicines like Modafinil, Armodafinil can be used to improve day time alertness and wakefulness. These medicines are free of abuse potential and are safe to use. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these medicines.

Thanks, hope this helps you
